How many times have you made a decision based on someone else’s experience or opinion about something? And this is not about being able to think independently. There are times in life that call for a leaning on someone else’s understanding.

Browsing a bunch of products online or even standing in front of rows of products in a supermarket can be quite exhausting and overwhelming–for me that is. (I can’t fathom how people use shopping as therapy).

That’s why I appreciate when the store attendant comes to give a hand by suggesting what I could buy based on either their knowledge of my personal tastes, or the experience of other customers. Most times, the suggestions turn out to be accurate.

For online purchases, I look at the ratings and also read the reviews and these help me to arrive at a better-informed decision faster, rather than going through the possible pain of trial and error. (Though sometimes, my gut instinct has come through magnificently).

Reviews and feedback are important to making the world a better place to live. When you speak out about your encounter with someone like an abusive partner, a toxic working place, or a fraudulent business, you’ve basically just given a review for the world to know. You’ve spared who knows how many other people from going through a similar ordeal.

Sharing your encounter will also let the company know in what ways they can improve their offerings, which would eventually translate to a better experience for you in the future.

On the flip side, a positive review for a product, service or experience will bring more business for the company in question. More business could translate to more growth, more jobs, increase in salaries for employees and more…See what your few words could do.

This is why in the process of giving feedback or giving a review, we have the responsibility to be truthful at all times, because your words could spell doom or glory.

So the next time you see the pop-up that asks you to give a review, rate your experience or provide feedback, don’t think you can’t be bothered. The guys at the other end really need to hear from you and more so, you’ll be doing us all (and yourself) a big service.
